Taming the Ableton Live library

Ableton Live has a built-in indexing service. You can drop sound files in the library and when you hit the sample swap icon it will bring up the search interface to help you locate them.

I use this feature a lot with impulse to quickly create a drum kit. I renamed all my kicks, snares, hats, cymbals, and toms with meaningful tags like "drum tom roland TR" or "kick drum acoustic".

Renaming the files was the trickiest bit. I have a 3GB one shot library of drum sounds. I needed a program that was quick, stable, and allowed me to add tags to existing file names. The program I found is Ant Renamer. Its a great piece of freeware that lets you batch rename files and add strings to existing files in a directory.
